TOURS / EXCURSION

This is a real 'Elderado' for those that like to walk in the hills or mountains. There is something for everyone, whatever their interests and ability, from short easy walks to long demanding mountain journeys that involve snow and ice.

One can take guided trips on the Jostedal Glacier (a temperate climate plateau glacier) or undertake a challenging trip in Jotunheimen 'peak bagging' or just hill walking. Indeed, our highest mountain, Galdhøpiggen (2469m), is only a couple of hours drive away.

Other possibilities are day trips to Flåm and its famous mountain railway, to the unique Wild Salmon Centre in Lærdal, to the Glacier Museum in Fjærland (and the nearby 'book town'), the Mountain Museum at Lom, or the nearer attractions of the Glacier Centre in the valley of Jostedal, itself one of our most beautiful drives. En route is Bergset in Krundalen, with its spectacular ice-fall, whilst from the Glacier Centre one can see the gentle Nigard Glacier with its 'S-bend' flowing down into the valley.

The district has many fine churches, some of them decorated with paintings dating from the middle ages, and in less than an hour one can reach one of the oldest and finest stave churches in the country - Urnes.

It is now possible to take a day trip to Bergen and, in the opposite direction, travel north to the spectacular fjord scenery of Geiranger.

The fjord makes a fine playground! Rowing boats are available, without charge, at the chalets.

If you fancy a holiday amongst some of the most beautiful and interesting scenery nature has to offer and would appreciate our many cultural attractions, this is the place for you!
